Pharmacy technician and manager, Bridget Foxwell, has been working in community pharmacy for nearly 20 years and the way she goes out of her way to help her community really impressed our judges. “We have a lovely community pharmacy in rural Somerset where we are familiar with all of our patients,” she explains. “The community trust us and often come to us first to see if we can help.” 

As the pharmacy is in an extremely rural location the team often go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure their community have access to high quality healthcare services. “It sometimes takes a long time for an ambulance to get to Wiveliscombe, so we are often the first port of call for more serious emergencies,” says Bridget. “Myself and the pharmacist, Sally, often act like first responders and are called out of the pharmacy to various patients. We raised money for a defibrillator about five years ago and this is often used in the community if needed, as it is in a cabinet on the outside of the pharmacy.”

Over the years, the pharmacy has thrown itself into raising money for charity, something Bridget has been at the heart of and really enjoys. “We have held annual charity events,” she explains. “I usually champion these and myself and the pharmacy team have raised over £20k for local charities.”

For Bridget, however, none of this would be possible without the constant support of her colleagues. “I am part of a wonderful team,” she says. “We get on so well and I am proud to say that we really look after our patients who we also consider to be our friends.”
